Valentines Day 2015
A day created to make single people overly aware of their relationship status and people in relationships a day to celebrate them having “the best ______ ever”. This Valentines Day the film industry made a very huge risk and released the film “Fifty Shades of Grey”. I have not read the book and I do not support the consumption of such absurdities.
First for foremost this book/film romanticizes abuse and rape. The movie follows a “shy, passive, lonely woman” just looking for “love” and she finds it in the macho, abusive, rich and manipulative “Christian Grey”. I have been seeing quotes and experts from the novel and it almost brings me to tears thinking that women find this erotic. Many women are taught that what they experience isn’t abuse and that they brought it on themselves. This film if reifying the idea that abuse is acceptable and even desirable. This makes it harder…
